There are pluses...easier access to international destinations, tons of museums, crackheads and traffic everywhere, lifelong politicians and consultants with no grasp of reality, hot summers AND cold winters, and...what were we just talking about?

You should check out Moran State Park on Orcas Island (last two pictures). The drive up to the top is awesome (would make an amazing hill climb course). Even with a 20 mile an hour limit and tourists.

Well Tacoma has plenty of crackheads and traffic, so that won’t be new at least.

hot summers AND cold winters
Based on your tone it sounds like you think this is a bad thing. This is not a bad thing.

The Smithsonians being free is pretty sweet. And walking the National Mall at night is epic.

We rarely get in the teens in the winter, but the summers can be just brutal.
Rarely hits 100, but the humidity can ruin anything.

And as a bonus, plenty of people in the Seattle area with no grasp of reality, so there will be less culture shock.

Ugh I wish, wife’s job is moving us, which means I gotta find something new. Hoping to find something that’s not boring as $&/* and actually contributes something to the advancement of humankind. These are tough requirements in the DC area.

More like “if I wanted to sweat my ass off, I’d move to Florida” and “If I wanted to freeze, I’d move to New England.” From a West Coaster’s perspective on what they call weather, wide fluctuations in temps can be a shocker.

I ripped up that road in my FoST last year with my soon-to-be fiance because the sun was setting and I wanted to propose at the top of the tower around sunset. It’s a ridiculously-fun road.

Dry cold is easier to deal with than humid mild cold though. And likewise with heat. Just don’t look at the thermometer and you’ll be fine.
Seriously, one of the most bitterly uncomfortable temperature related times of my life was in San Francisco. Temp was around 7-12C. In other words, the temperature when you start to think about going without a jacket in the spring around here. And it cut through me like a knife. My abs were actually in pain from the constant shivering.
By contrast, I can be comfortable in Manitobian -18C with a light jacket and a pair of skates.

We have homeless heroin addicts in the streets in all the cities here in the “good Washington”, along with shitty lifelong politicians with no grasp of reality, too. There are a lot of negatives to this place (not the least of which is the insane cost of living and lack of housing), but the one that annoys me the most is how far it is (and how expensive flights are) to get to just about anywhere else except a few major cities in the US.
We do have much better weather (I love the constant rain/drizzle), outdoor recreation, and scenery, though. I’d much rather live here than most places.

Seattle does, too. Heroin and homelessness are absolute epidemics from Everett through Olympia.

*chuckles* We’ve been married over 7 months now, but she wasn’t yet my fiance at the time of the fast drive up it...
There are a lot of great roads around here, although my favorites are mostly on the Olympic Peninsula or up in the mountains. Would love to hear which your favorites are in Western WA.

Yeah we are going to be in Burke, so getting to the coast is not so bad. I’m mostly bummed about not having a bunch of 2-3000 ft mountains in town and a massive lake within walking distance.
